A shot hit the window of the opposition leader’s home in Niš
He recalled that Serbian state officials repeatedly referred to him and two other opposition figures as the „trio of evil” in Niš, calling them „traitors” and „CIA doctors,” and he believes that such rhetoric can encourage someone to resort to violence

Dr. Dragan Milić, a member of the Niš City Assembly and founder of the PODES party, stated that someone fired a shot at his home, resulting in a bullet hole in the window of his bedroom. The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that there is a high probability that the damage was indeed caused by a projectile, and similar damage was found on the window of the shop located one floor below.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the incident took place around 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, when Milić reported the damage to his apartment window.
Authorities immediately went to the scene, and under the supervision of the prosecutor, conducted an investigation lasting several hours. The investigative authority announced that all necessary measures are being taken to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
Milić also showed the reporter of N1 Television where the bullet hit the window and added that he owes his life to the thick glass, as laser measurements indicated that the attacker aimed accurately, with the bullet directed towards his pillow — in other words, towards his head.

The opposition leader does not rule out an assassination attempt
The heart surgeon professor commented that this incident is not accidental, but rather the result of the tense political climate prevailing in the country for months.
He recalled that Serbian state officials repeatedly referred to him and two other opposition figures as the „trio of evil” in Niš, calling them „traitors” and „CIA doctors,” and he believes that such rhetoric can encourage someone to resort to violence.

He stated that the case could even be considered an attempted murder. Milić emphasized that the police and prosecutors are currently working to clarify the case, but he believes that incidents like this are precisely the result of the toxic rhetoric poisoning Serbian public discourse today.
The politician warned that there is a growing divide between different groups in Serbian society, and he argued that it is the responsibility of public figures to de-escalate tensions rather than inflame them further.
He pointed out that severe statements from the country’s leadership, labeling him as „the number one evil,” can lead to tragic consequences.

Milić also pointed out that he has been the target of smear campaigns for a long time, with false claims circulating about him building a huge villa — something that, according to him, exists only in renderings and plans, but not in reality.
He described this as a classic smear campaign and reminded that similar tactics had previously been used against Oliver Ivanović, a former Kosovo Serb politician, and Zoran Đinđić, a former Serbian prime minister — both of whom ultimately paid with their lives.
He expressed that he does not wish to compare himself to them but hopes that all windows and all heads in Niš will remain safe. He expressed hope that this situation will not escalate further.
The mayor of Niš also condemned the attack
The gravity of the case is reflected in the fact that Dragoslav Pavlović, the mayor of Niš, who was recently pelted with eggs and doused with water, also condemned the attack and called on authorities to swiftly identify and punish those responsible.
Pavlović emphasized that all forms of violence must be condemned, regardless of who is affected. He stated that the values of peace and freedom are more important now than ever before.
It is worth noting that Milić had previously condemned the attack on the „imposed” mayor of Niš, which, according to him, was carried out by an irresponsible group of individuals. He called on everyone to refrain from any form of physical violence.
Opposition parties have also demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the shooting at the professor’s apartment. The Party of Freedom and Justice requested that the police keep the public regularly informed, while the Civic Platform stressed the need for swift resolution of the case.
Milić stated that he would not back down and would continue working for a fairer and better Serbia. He believes that society needs a complete „reset” and a new beginning that includes everyone.
The politician also commented on the Serbian Progressive Party’s rally in Niš on March 21, which he said was organized in such a way that „VIP members” — who were at a safe distance from demonstrators — were protected, while ordinary party members were exposed to risk. He believes this was a deliberate provocation aimed at portraying student protests as violent.
In conclusion, Milić stressed that while anger is understandable, it does not justify violence, and he called on all public figures to demonstrate greater responsibility for the sake of societal peace.
